Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger Point Therapy
Trigger Point Therapy is a specialised treatment technique used to address chronic muscle pain, tightness, and movement restrictions in specific individuals. It focuses on identifying and treating highly sensitive areas within muscular tissue known as trigger points.
These points often develop in muscles that have been overworked, stressed, or held in a contracted state for extended periods.

What Are Trigger Points?
Trigger points are small, hyper-irritable spots within a muscle that can cause:
Localised pain and tenderness
Muscle tightness and stiffness
Reduced strength or coordination
Referred pain into other areas of the body
Pain caused by trigger points is commonly associated with myofascial pain syndrome, a condition involving dysfunction in the muscle and connective tissue system.

Referred Pain Explained
A key feature of trigger points is referred pain, where discomfort is felt in a different area from where the actual trigger point is located.
For example, a trigger point in one muscle may contribute to pain, tingling, or aching in a distant area of the body. Identifying and treating the true source of the dysfunction is essential for lasting relief.

How Trigger Point Therapy Works
Research and clinical practice show that when an active trigger point is effectively treated or “deactivated,” there is often a noticeable improvement in:
Pain reduction
Muscle function
Range of motion
Overall movement quality
Your therapist will locate the specific trigger points contributing to your symptoms and apply precise manual techniques to release tension and restore normal muscle function.

Causes of Trigger Points
Trigger Points may develop due to a variety of factors, including:
Acute injury or trauma
Repetitive strain or overuse
Poor posture or joint dysfunction
Physical stress or overload
Emotional stress and tension
Underlying musculoskeletal imbalance

Treatment Outcomes
By addressing the underlying trigger points, this therapy aims to:
Relieve chronic muscle pain
Improve flexibility and movement
Reduce referred pain patterns
Restore normal muscle function
